Uh-oh! The little owl has fallen out of its nest. Where is mom now? Squirrel will help him a bit, but then little Owl has to give the right directions... Fortunately, it all turns out well in the end, with a nice cookie!
A little owl falls asleep from the nest onto the soft forest floor. Squirrel wants to help him find his mom. The owl's clues are limited and so they end up with the wrong mom several times. Meanwhile, mom is also looking. All's well that ends well, although the funny ending holds a surprise. The illustrations, in muted colours, are sleek and sober and made in a digital collage-like technique, with simple shapes and stylized figures. The prints have more to offer than meets the eye: panoramic images of the forest, the phased fall of the owlet, the running back and forth of the squirrel and the owlet, the hidden silhouettes of some animals, including Mum. The flat figures are nevertheless lively due to strong body language and the position of the eyes. The composition is very thoughtful. The alternation of plates with a white background for the dialogues and colorful overview plates for the action gives dynamism to the story. The striking, angular letter is printed alternately in white or green. A funny, fine picture book, selected as Picture Book of the Year 2012.
