The little Koala is a creature of habit. He loves his place high in the tree and likes to keep things as they are. One day, the worst Koala can imagine happens: his tree falls. Now he has to let go. This is how he finds out that a change does not mean the end of the world.
Habit is nice and clear and pleasant. Change seems scary, but what happens when you step out of your comfort zone? This impressive picture book tells a wonderful feel-good story with a light-hearted message: dare to let go!
A little koala is having a great time in his tree. He clings tightly to the tree trunk and has no intention of getting out of the safe tree as it is very crowded and noisy on the ground. When a wombat asks if he can come down to play with other animals, he says he is too busy. But the little koala is afraid to come down, to the strange. One day the tree is visited by a woodpecker, who hammers so hard with his beak that the tree falls over. Once on the ground, the koala notices how nice it can be there. In a beautiful, palpable way, the fear of the koala bears for everything strange is well worked out, culminating in joy when he finally overcomes his fear. The lively translation uses broken rhyme, which aids reading. In the beautiful illustrations in mixed media, the emotions of the koala bear are underlined by the use of color. The layout is varied and the koala bears are also viewed from a varying perspective, sometimes in extreme close-up, sometimes from below. Details within the illustrations may lead to further discussion of the story. A very successful picture book. From approx. 3 years.
Let go, Koala!
Let go, Koala! Don't hang on to that branch.
Let go, let yourself fall. We will catch you!
But Koala was scared. He clutched the bark
and he only held on tighter.
